Literacy Volunteers of Monmouth County (NJ)

Literacy is an often overlooked or ignored problem in our country today. I believe in supporting local literacy organizations that work hard to make a change. Literacy Volunteers of Monmouth County (LVMC) was based in Long Branch, NJ where I live. As a volunteer designer, I designed their logo and branding. I created all the artwork for their communication materials including monthly newsletters, brochures and postcards to reach supporters, volunteers, and key donors in the county.

I also designed the artwork for the organization’s main annual fundraising events, including invitations, promotional material, all ads submissions for the ad journals.

This was a critical element in the organization’s efforts to reach its annual operating budget through ticket sales and donations

The organization was merged into Literacy New Jersey in 2020.

Neighbourism | Toronto, Canada

As the Covid-19 Pandemic started to gain a foothold in early 2020, lockdowns and restrictions ensued, resulting in tremendous uncertainty and losses for business owners and workers around the world. Spurred on by the closures in their own neighborhood in Downtown Toronto, two friends of mine, started Neighbourism and invited me to pitch in with the design and development of the initiative’s website.

The Neighbourism team of four volunteers worked to invite struggling businesses in Toronto neighborhoods to be listed on the site for free, where visitors could choose to purchase gift cards to help keep these local businesses afloat, through those most trying initial months of the pandemic.

From an early start with just 4 listings, the site grew to over 40 within a month.

As conditions in Toronto, began to improve, the site was eventually drawn down in November 2020.

For this blessing of the pets event ad, I wanted to create a visual that was striking and whimsical to capture the attention of kids and families in the parish and people within the newspaper’s circulation.
