ApoPharma
Iron Warriors Website
The brief was to design and build an informative and motivational, multi-language site aimed at kids with thalassemia in their early to mid-teens. The focus was also on alleviating the sense of social isolation some young patients with thalassemia feel as a result of their often onerous treatment regimens.
This was accomplished on the site through interesting articles and videos, art contests, a music channel, and a photo gallery. The consistent theme was one of empowerment and motivation.
The site was launched in 6 languages (Arabic, Chinese, Turkish, Bahasa Indonesia, Portuguese and English) in 2017.
Leveraging the existing Iron Warriors cartoon characters owned and used by ApoPharma, I designed the site taking visual cues from comic books as a start, using a brighter palette for a fun, engaging platform.
Challenges included ensuring that all imagery and content was culturally sensitive, given the different regions the site was viewable in.

Companion Booklet
To address the needs of patients in underdeveloped regions, and those without reliable internet access, a printed companion booklet was designed to capture all the fun, motivation, and useful resources from the website. The booklets were translated into six languages and distributed at treatment centers and via local supporting thalassemia organizations.
Iron Warriors Educational Video Series : Iron and Adherence
I edited and designed the motion graphics for this video that explained the importance of chelation adherence for thalassemia patients.
TIF 2017 Conference | Exhibition Stand | Thessalonikki, Greece
The concept for the exhibition stand was based around ‘Connection’. Working closely with ApoPharma, I designed the stand to be an open, vibrant and welcoming space. Visitors could interact, while relaxing in comfortable seating, gather information, and immerse themselves in new experiences through VR headsets.
The exhibition stand was designed to be an extension of the Iron Warriors website, carrying the same style elements creating a fun, warm environment.
Early Concepts
Early ideas for the exhibition stand explored the possibility of repurposing the exhibition structure for a variety of uses, including easy reconfiguration into a treatment pod.
Skateboard Decks
To get the message across that even with thalassemia, teens are unstoppable and unique, I designed these one-of-a-kind skateboard decks to reflect different themes that would appeal to the international attendees. The decks were custom printed and built by BoardPusher.
